Betancourt-Resendes et al. 2019:14 [ref. 37138] synonymized Chirostoma chapalae Jordan & Snyder 1899 and C. promelas Jordan & Snyder 1899, and gave peference to chapalae. •Valid as Menidia chapalae (Jordan & Snyder 1899) -- (Miller 2006:193 [ref. 28615]). •Valid as Chirostoma chapalae Jordan & Snyder 1899 -- (Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:59 [ref. 22290], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:518 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:98 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:100 [ref. 32708], Betancourt-Resendes et al. 2019:14 [ref. 37138], Piñeros et al. 2022:3 [ref. 39643]). Current status: Uncertain as Chirostoma sphyraena Boulenger 1900. Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Habitat: freshwater.
